- A federal judge denied Viacom's claim for $1 billion in punitive damages on Friday in its knockdown/drag out legal battle with Google's YouTube, almost a year after the suit was filed. The ruling notes copyright law makes no provision for putative damages and "protection given to copyrights is wholly statutory."
