The 'draw' system was lame to the power of ten, agreed. But the humble card game has never been more accessible or fun, and the looks and plot of the thing I felt made up for quite a bit. IX irritated me, and I could never put my finger on exactly why. Give me a minute.

Sometimes I think that with all my love of random anime and D&D, I'm quite a hardcore geek... but then I read the replies to a good fadingembers post and realize I'm way outta my league :)

I will stipulate that the gravity summon (Diablos??) looked utterly awesome in VIII, and that gunblades are pretty sweet (I even went so far as to use one in D&D), but everything else is WRONG!! ;) I never played the card game, but then again I never played any of the FF sub-games.

You missed out. The card game in VIII was a masterpiece of Good Design, which is more than I can say for IX's.

I think I avoided playing the mini-games because they tended to be in-game CCG's, and at the time I was already addicted to M:TG.
