The 'draw' system was lame to the power of ten, agreed. But the humble card game has never been more accessible or fun, and the looks and plot of the thing I felt made up for quite a bit. IX irritated me, and I could never put my finger on exactly why. Give me a minute.

The tiny, tiny people? Or was I the only one frightened by them?

And *raises tentative hand* I liked VIII! Though it was much more for the story and the characters than the overall game play because every bit of "summon, summon, summon" rings true.

Pro-VIII I was going to cite the kinkiness of the school setting and all the pretty people in uniforms, but I didn't want to reveal my shallowness so early on. Oops.

Hey, I'd be lying if I denied playing for the pretty, pretty men. Of which there are many. Yay!

And Squall's outfit. And the cowboy. And Laguna. Hey, sweet is sexy.

Oh, Irvine! And the possibilities of Squall/Seifer hatesex! Oh, how I do heart the hatesex.

I also loved Cid.

SHUT UP. It wasn't in a sex way!

It's always in a sex way! <3

No no no! The second time I played through it, I realized that Cid had been apart from his possessed wife for...I forgot how many years now, but like a decade, and he was still so in love with her that he couldn't bear to see her die. That made me love his sweet, loyal self.

Oh, Cid and sex, no no no. I was talking about the hot jailbait teenagers.

My love for Irvine knows no bounds. *eyes shelf of doujinshi and ponders just how much she's spent on Irvine-related fan comics that she can't even read*

Is this where we friend each other? Cause, y'know, I wouldn't mind... and stuff... '_'

Yay!

Translation: I would love to friend you and to tell you so in a witty and intelligent manner to trick you into thinking that I'm cool. Sadly, though, lack of sleep has severely limited my though processing capabilities, so the best I could come up with was the above response.

That's scary. To the power of ten.

Sometimes I think that with all my love of random anime and D&D, I'm quite a hardcore geek... but then I read the replies to a good fadingembers post and realize I'm way outta my league :)

I'm not a hardcore geek. Just your regular geek who happens to dig the hatesex...

Unless you pack your attack slots with kickass spells early on, in which case it's "HAHAHAHA I OWNZ YOUR ASS, UNSUSPECTING SOLDIER!"

I remember taking down Seifer the first time in only one hit.
Seifer: You can't have beat me!
Me: I CAN'T HAVE BEAT YOU!

I will stipulate that the gravity summon (Diablos??) looked utterly awesome in VIII, and that gunblades are pretty sweet (I even went so far as to use one in D&D), but everything else is WRONG!! ;) I never played the card game, but then again I never played any of the FF sub-games.

You missed out. The card game in VIII was a masterpiece of Good Design, which is more than I can say for IX's.

I think I avoided playing the mini-games because they tended to be in-game CCG's, and at the time I was already addicted to M:TG.
