I have to profess a liking for all of those things. ¬_¬

With FMA, you need to get to episode 8 before you know whether it's going to eat your brain or not. Give it a chance!

I just marathoned a bunch of FMA the other day and holy shit episodes 7 and 8 kicked so much ass. 7 in a creepy "I can't believe they did that!" kind of way and 8 for the very realistic "Oh yeah he is 12 isn't he?" fight at the end.

Stellar icon, btw.

7 was unbelievable. I kept thinking 'no way, they're going to pull a happy ending out of somewhere', and then... and then... oh, God, I can't! Not again! Don't make me relive it!

That's when I knew FMA was not after all the fun comedy it pretended to be in episode 1.

Why thank you! I didn't make it, though. :3

*whisper* It's Val's fault I haven't seen more FMA, `shaka! She still has my DVD of eps! ;)

I called a friend to commiserate.
Me: I can't believe they--
Him: I KNOW!
Me: That was just so--
Him: I KNOW!

Agreed on Jude Law, yaoi, and LotR. Jury is out (hah!) on FMA.

There are people who like FFVIII? That was easily the worst one of the series.

IX was so much worse!

Date: 2004-12-06 06:35 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] emperorko.livejournal.com
It most certainly was NOT!

VIII had the worst system ever in a FF game. Summon, summon, summon, summon some more. Then it had that horrible "summoning affinity" that made summons useless if you transferred them between characters, and the wacky limit breaks that required button combinations. It was lousy!

From: [identity profile] uiggu.livejournal.com
The 'draw' system was lame to the power of ten, agreed. But the humble card game has never been more accessible or fun, and the looks and plot of the thing I felt made up for quite a bit. IX irritated me, and I could never put my finger on exactly why. Give me a minute.

From: [identity profile] sarcasticval.livejournal.com
The tiny, tiny people? Or was I the only one frightened by them?

And *raises tentative hand* I liked VIII! Though it was much more for the story and the characters than the overall game play because every bit of "summon, summon, summon" rings true.

I will stipulate that the gravity summon (Diablos??) looked utterly awesome in VIII, and that gunblades are pretty sweet (I even went so far as to use one in D&D), but everything else is WRONG!! ;) I never played the card game, but then again I never played any of the FF sub-games.

I like VIII. I'll agree that drawing can be a pain and the system is definitely tilted more towards summon that other ones, but if you use the junction system well you can have a LOT of fun, trust me. :D Plus I loved some of the characters and that counted more for me.

From: [identity profile] emperorko.livejournal.com
The junction system was kinda cool to a point, but I very much preferred the materia system of VII. There was just something incredibly cool about going into battle with Emerald Weapon, limit meters maxed out, everyone equipped with that "re-run" materia (forget what it was called), and watching the epic ass-kicking movie that would result after the first hit.

the key word here is unconditionally.
i can take or leave jude law, yaoi, or pixar.. some of the specific instances i have better opinions on.
final fantasy VIII is renowned to everyone I've met as the worst FF game ever, after the first five minutes.
full metal alchemist and lord of the rings I approve of, but not for the standard reasons.
the last couple episodes of FMA made me like it, as opposed to think it was kinda neat.
lord of the rings is a classic in that it has had a profound impact on the world at large. some people like it, and some don't, but that's not important, which is why there are classes on it.
-worth noting.. my brain was wired as a direct result of the lord of the rings. you DO NOT rip up trees in large numbers. I only remembered ents were the reason when the first movie came out.

I will agree on everything except Pixar, which I LOVE (esp. nemo, because I <33TEh FISH!1). That could be my list if you dropped Pixar and put fucking THE BEETLES AND STAR WARS. I also think Orlando Bloom looks like a rat.

Tch, there's an active and healthy "look at me, I'm so cool because I don't like the same things as you" community for most of those things. Except possibly Pixar and Jude Law, 'cause ... you can just avoid those.

Hell, there's [livejournal.com profile] antiyaoi, off the top of my head. LOTS of people are going to hate FMA when it goes on Cartoon Network, because OMGWTFBBQ exposing the dirty Americans to anime makes the anime bad automatically. (wait... is it already on CN? oh, whatever.) I've taken quite a bit of "you're stupid and I'm cool because you liked LotR as a kid and now there's a big movie with a gigantic dumb fandom" flak.

and I've been a one-woman FFVIII hate squad for a good five years now. ♥ ...okay, I don't hate everything, just the entire fucking point of the game, which is to give pissy 15-year-old fanboys the imaginary cheerleader girlfriends they think they all deserve and will get any day now, just by standing around sulking and being asses to everyone. YAY.

But yes yes, everyone who hates things that happen to be popular is automatically a better and more valuable person to humanity. Blah, blah blah.

Actually, I started this post because I couldn't avoid Jude Law. It seems like he's on every channel and every magazine cover and no one can stop talking about how utterly drop-dead gorgeous he is, and I feel weird for saying, "But I don't even find him marginally attractive..."

I don't HATE anything here. They all seem to be very, very popular, and I'm not excited. Was hoping to start conversations with people where they could talk about what makes these things awesome, because I'm a curious cat like that. I don't think I'm cooler than anyone else for not liking Jude Law and Pixar. Trust me.

If I did actively hate any of those things, this post would've been longer. I'm verbose and complainy like that.

Well, hate, uninterested, whatever. In this context - "I'm better than you because you like something and I don't" - it's all the same.

Ah, I haven't run into stuff about him much because errr... I don't read magazines or watch much TV. ^_^; That does get irritating, though.

Ah. I'm slow on the uptake, I guess; I'd have expected "I don't get this, explain plz?" rather than "Everybody loves this except me, I'm different, ha-ha!"

I can understand how one might think that when reading the post, but it's definitely not what she was saying. Knowing her, she'd throw in a few "Hahaha neeners!" if she was. Casey darlin', you know I love you, but subtle you are not. ;)
