Anyone have any vampire books (good or terrible) that they recommend? I'm on a vampire book kick recently, and the past couple I've picked up have been atrocious.

Have you read the Twilight series?

I've heard mixed reviews, so I've been putting off picking up a copy. Any others you liked/disliked/read?

Twilight is fucking hideous, so yeah. Don't read unless you really want to turn your brain off.

I'm in love with the twilight series...I think you're just geeky enough to get it. I agree it's a "turn your brain off" kind of book, but in a good way.

CS Friedman's Coldfire trilogy is pretty darned good, although it doesn't involve a traditional vampire. He drinks blood and preys on young girls, though, so that might be good enough.

Another Friedman book to try if you want a different twist on vampires and you don't want to commit to a trilogy is The Madness Season. I enjoyed the Coldfire trilogy, but I loved The Madness Season, especially the relationship between Kiri and Daetrin.

The ones I'd recommend are primarily romance novels about vampires, and rather old to boot, but hey you never know what you might find. One is 'Obession' by Lori Herter and the other is 'Sunlight, Moonlight' by Madeline Baker. That one has two stories for the price of one, and Moonlight is what you want to read. Tragic vampires FTW!

I have not read it but Fat White Vampire Blues has been on my reading list for some time, for a variety of reasons, not the least of which being 'it sounded funny.'

The Twilight Series is a fabulous fun quick read and i'm totally obsessed....OBSESSED. Please disregard anything having to do with the movie as that looks as though it will certainly suck. I know the reviews are mixed, and i know there are people that hate it. I freaking LOVE it....just saying.

Not sure if you're looking for something serious, but Bloodsucking Fiends: A love story", and "You Suck" by Christopher Moore are pretty hilarious takes on a modern vampire story.

Then there are the Anne Rice books of course, if you haven't already explored those options.

I'm late here, but Bloodsucking Fiends did, in fact, rock my ass.

And I just read this blog post from another author and thought of you, Casey: http://www.jennsylvania.com/jennsylvania/2008/09/no-vampires-wer.html
