Jan. 11th, 2003 12:47 pm1. When John F. Kennedy was shot (11/22/1963)
My Mom hadn't even graduated high school, and my dad was married to another woman. I wasn't even thought of yet.
2. When Mt. St. Helens blew (5/18/1980)
Nope, still not born. But my parents have been married for 6 months.
3. When the space shuttle Challenger exploded (1/28/1986)
I was four. I didn't really learn about it until later in life.
4. When the 7.1 earthquake hit San Francisco (10/7/1989)
Watching the world series, when suddenly, the camera shook and the picture went out. We had moved out of California exactly 10 months earlier.
5. When the Berlin Wall fell (11/7/1989)
Damned if I knew. If I knew, I doubt I understood what was happening. I do remember Charlie Gibson from Good Morning America standing in front of it. I also remember wondering, "If it fell, why don't they just rebuild it?"
6. When the Gulf War began (1/16/1991)
Too young to understand. But the lady who babysat me's husband was over there, so she sold little yellow ribbons to the neighbourhood. I had one on my Barbie house.
7. When OJ Simpson was chased in his White Bronco (6/17/1994)
You know what I remember about OJ Simpson? Soap operas getting interrupted for the next few months.
8. When the building in Oklahoma City was bombed (4/19/1995)
I lived in Wichita when this happened (Geez, disaster follows me everywhere). Because I'm a cold little bastard child, I remember being more concerned with my mom taking me to my piano lesson.
9. When Princess Di was killed (8/31/1997)
Woke up to my parents watching the TV. My mom was crying. Wasn't even our monarch.
10. When Bush was first announced President (11/7/2000)
He wasn't announced President then, was he? Didn't that whole fiasco last up until January 19?
11. When the 6.8 earthquake hit Nisqually, WA (2/28/2001)
Who with the what now?
12. When terrorists knocked over the World Trade Center (9/11/2001)
I think it's funny that instead of saying "terrorists attacked" this question says "terrorists knocked over." This evokes a picture of a bunch of terrorists trying to push the buildings over. Sue and I were on our way to Honours Sociology and we saw the news on a Student Center TV. I didn't realise what was really going on, though. I thought it was just some drunken pilot who had had too many Bloody Marys before takeoff.
