40cakes: (Chuck Norris Oregon Trail)

Fact: Chuck Norris flew around the world at the speed of light, spinning it backwards in time enough that he met with America's Founding Fathers in 1790 to learn who they'd support for President in 2008. Well okay, no he didn't. But he likes to guess.

Fox News has been developing a "right-wing answer" to The Daily Show. It seems they've created "Red Eye", a clip of which was leaked online. You can see it here. What they don't seem to understand is that The Daily Show was created as a satire on the news, and they're good enough and funny enough to have garnered an audience (In Rolling Stone, Jon said a news correspondent once asked him how they found all those clips "where Bush contradicts himself"; Jon's answer was, I believe, "an intern and a tape deck"). Red Eye is four right-wing douchebags sitting around a table cracking each other up with stupid shit, which in no way separates it from, say, ANY OTHER FOX NEWS PROGRAM. Also, what's with the hand-held camera? Seriously.

Clearly the camera that lacks the stability of a tripod or dolly shows that the show is "edgy" and "exciting."

Now, arguably Criag Kilborne was a douchebag to a lesser extent, but I still found him funny. The Daily Show didn't grow to be nearly as big until the host change though, and I think it's because they started letting the news tell more of the jokes. Colbert's comedy is antagonistic, but unapologetic and strait faced so the antagonism can be comedic.

If you notice nothing else about cinematography and the effective use of humor, you know that the daily show has a pattern. Clip, quip. It's really obvious, easy, and effective. The problem with this for Fox News is that they don't like to show proof of their professed beliefs because it creates a well informed pubic and it keeps them from being as sensationalistic.

I have a theory. It could be bunnies. Since Fox News watchers don't like facts or reasons, but they do like angry people yelling about things they misrepresent and don't understand, I theorize that since talk shows and reality shows have grown less popular, the people who watch Fox News are the ex-talk or ex-reality show watchers. They still get the meaningless pageantry, under the guise of current events.

I agree. I think Stephen was the one who pointed out, "Doesn't reality have a liberal bias?" What news clips could they show to support their beliefs? Seriously.

Wow. Are they for real? Because...wow. Poor taste, Fox News! I'm surprised at you!
(Haha, just kiddin', I can never be surprised by anything they do. Just waitin' for the Ann Coulter Naked News Hour. *shudder*)

They'd never do that! Lady parts are immoral and disgusting and lead men to sin and only slutty liberals go naked. She'd just wear a leather bikini and ride in on the back of a ball-gagged Sean Hannity.

I didn't think Ann Coulter *had* lady parts. Unless that Adam's Apple of "hers" *coff* counts as a vestigial breast...
And also, thanks. Now I know what my nightmares will be like tonight.
