Feel like I haven't had one in a while! Here's one for the comic geeks, and for Kirk, who just was reading a few of these GN's recently:

HBO is developing a new series called Preacher, a one hour drama based on the comics series from Vertigo. Per Hollywood Reporter, The Preacher has been possessed by a combination of angel/demon, and as such has enormous powers, and with two companions is traveling the States in search of God, who the Preacher believes has neglected his heavenly duties.

I also haven't posted a NaSweKniMo number in a while. Hopefully I at least broke 10K. Maybe.

I just sent that news to Manning in an email!!! I'm excited; HBO may actually do it justice.

*fingers crossed*

This info from the Reuters story makes me shudder:

"Mark Steven Johnson, the writer-director behind comic adaptations "Daredevil" and the upcoming "Ghost Rider," is writing the pilot, while Howard Deutch is attached to direct. Johnson also wrote "Grumpier Old Men," which Deutch directed."

I'll still Netflix the DVD (no HBO), but my momentary blush of fandom excitement cooled considerably when I read the Daredevil bit.

Agreed. And Ghost Rider looks *horrible*. Hollywood needs to figure out that if your principal character is CGI, people aren't going to give a shit.

Maybe it'll be good? Maybe?

I haven't read the comics, but as I understand they are full of violence and cursing and those are things HBO loves :) If anyone would do it justice, it'd be them.

Oohh whos gonna play who?

Cole Hauser would be a good choice, if you know hwo he is.

You think Spike would be up for playing another british vampire?

Ah, Robert Carlyle would be the perfect choice for Cassidy, he can be such a dirtbag. Cameron Diaz has played Tulip before (A Life Less Ordinary), but Katee Sackhoff would own the role. Jesse's tough, because anyone in Hollywood pretty enough to play him isn't credible as someone who can kick ass. Rutger Hauer for Starr. The Saint's difficult, because he's so much a Clint Eastwood-inspired figure that Eastwood himself wouldn't work, but it's hard to see who else would.

I reallyu do think Cole Hauser is a good choice for Jessie (and hes not too big a name to refuse the role)

Kris Kristofferson would be good for The Saint but hes already done a comic movie so he may refuse

Ah, Robert Carlyle. Not familiar with the character, but I know what you mean. Cameron Diaz might be too big to do TV.

I'll believe it when I see it, a Preacher adaptation's been rumored for so long and then repeatedly killed.

And it's a shame, because with Brando dead there's nobody to play D'aronique.

Fucking, right!

I love the idea of the Preacher story being told in series format on HBO because if the first season finds an audience then the show will have TONS of material to showcase from the comics.

As much as I was looking forward to a Preacher movie, I think HBO is a better home for it considering they may already have a built in audience in everyone who's still pissed that Deadwood isn't coming back.

If HBO plays up the similarities between the two properties during any marketing campaigns then I don't see any reason why Preacher wouldn't be a resounding success.

Then again Deadwood wasn't a resounding success so my opinion pretty much means fuck all.

Also, "from the director of Daredevil" isn't the most ringing of endorsements in my eyes.

At least it's not from the director of X-Men 3.

MAN! I'm a complete slut for any type of comic book movie and went so far as to buy and enjoy the director's cut of Daredevil, but, even given everything awful about Brett Ratner, he got more right than wrong in X-Men 3 than Mark David Johnson did.

I do not know whether to have a gleegasm or smack my head on the desk. A movie was in pre-production for a while, and I was afraid of that, too, because it's a gigantic story with dozens of awesome characters and I didn't think they could hit even half the important marks in two hours. So I said "HBO should do it! They can take as long as they want, as long as it doesn't get canceled, and even if it does get axed it'll be after a full season!") (Also, HBO does good work, and I think they can get away with even more bad language and deviant sex acts than a movie.)
But. This is one of my favorite things that has ever been allowed to exist on this earth, and if they pull a League of Extraordinary Gentlemen on it, I'm going to probably go on a bender the likes of which this world has never seen. HBO, I beseech you - think of my liver!
