I was PMSing and miserable this weekend, and it only gets worse when I'm miserable and forced to clothes-shop, even when the clothes store is pretending it's a Halloween store. Everything I liked wasn't in my size. What was in my size was too expensive. And we all know that packaged Halloween costumes are all made of fabric the consistency of Kleenex, so they're nowhere near worth the money. I'm not creative enough to make anything (though when someone saw this pic of a work-in-progress glove, they said, "You look like Edward Scissorhands!" and I thought, Hey, Edward Knittyhands or something would be cute, but I have no time or patience or yarn to halfway-sorta knit up an entire outfit, but now I know what I can go as next year, but I digress), but I noticed that all the costumes were "Gothic Witch", "Gothic Vampire", "Gothic Angel", "Gothic 1900's-era Railroad Tycoon", and said, "Hey, I says, I should just go in my goth wear and everyone at work will be surprised and no one will notice that's it's not really a costume!" AWESOME.

Wow - the glove looks great! How hard would it be to do a glove if I'm able to do Knitty's Fetching? I'm afraid. My thumb gussets always suck.

I don't know - it's not done yet, so we'll see how it turns out! It's knit entirely in size 2 DPNs (that first round is EVIL). To make the thumb gusset, you increase on one side of the glove for about 20 rounds, then transfer the stitches to a stitch holder (to pick up stitches and knit them later). For the fingers, you keep knitting up to the knuckles, transfer all the stitches to stitch holders, and then knit each finger at a time with DPNs. It's easier than it sounds, but it's still time-consuming. Not the sort of knitting you do in front of the TV :) The pattern recommended self-striping sock yarn. I used Knitpicks Memories, but whatever yarn the original woman used in her picture makes larger stripes.

I am the one person in the universe who has not tried Fetching.

I would like to try making a pair of actual gloves with actual fingers, but I'm scared it will make me want to stab myself in the eye with the needles. Maybe I will just try it and see. I'll never know otherwise.

Yeah, my "costume" was totally just a goth dress. It was way better for the money and I got a "big girl" size because it was cheaper then some of the cuter outfits. I just threw the sincher over it to make it fit nicer. When i'm done I'm sellilng it on ebay.

Your costume was cute! Are you wearing it again tomorrow?

Gothic 1900's-era Railroad Tycoon

DAMN! They stole my idea.

^-^* Me, I just grabbed an old prom dress from my sister's closet, bought a cheap pair of wings, a star ornament (whole other gripe there) and slapped together a random fairy princess thing. O_o

The store had a "Carrie" outfit that was fab, but it was so damn expensive and made so cheaply. For the same price, I could've bought an old bridesmaid dress at Goodwill, a cheap wig, and a bucket of paint at Home Depot :) I'd make awesome Halloween costumes if I ever got around to planning earlier!
