The CW begins a nationwide casting search for contestants for its new reality series The Search for the Next Pussycat Doll from 12n-6p this Friday, August 25, in New York City at the Park Central New York Hotel, 870 Seventh Avenue at 56th Street. The producers are looking for young women, 18 years or older, from all walks of life who want to become a self-empowered Pussycat Doll. Additional audition locations and information like audition requirements, applications, and directions on submitting audition videos, can be found at www.cwtv.com. The show is produced by Warner Horizon Television, 10 by 10 Entertainment, Pussycat Dolls, LLC, Interscope A&M Records and Wonderland Sound and Vision.

Man, because whenever I look at the state of feminism today, I always say, "Gosh, I just wish women could be more sexualized. And we need more mediocre female pop stars, especially those whose singles take the form of competing with other women and needing physical justification from men." Hey man, the Spice Girls were pretty feminist when it comes down to it. Their songs weren't "You left me please baby please come back cries," so much as, "These are my friends who are as awesome as me and if you'd like to do me here is my rigorous list of requirements." Dig the movie - they have a pregnant friend who climaxes the movie by giving birth, and at no point in the hour and a half do they try to reunite her with her babydaddy. It's mentioned that he's a douchebag, and that's that. SHE'S GONNA BE A SINGLE MOM AND SHE'LL BE AWESOME AT IT.

Which isn't to say that the Spice Girls are the pinnacle of feminism, mind you, but moreso than the Pussycat Dolls.

The Pussycat Dolls...ugh. They don't make me feel empowered. They kind of make me feel disgusted.

Random: I read that Jessica Alba said "The best way to be hot is to be yourself" on the Teen Choice awards last night. I'm going to go ahead and disagree. When yourself means Jessica Alba, it's a lot easier to say that. Being myself means sleeping all day and waking up with my hair being a mess to a breakfast of chocolate cake or something. Fun? Yes. Hot? Not so much. Jessica Alba is someone else that I do not find represents female empowerment since she works out all day to "be herself."
