40cakes: (Weekend Update)

I think I'm allergic to South Jersey. Living in North Jersey and working in Manhattan has made me allergic to nature. I like driving with the windows down and breathing the salty country air (spiced with cow dung and skunk), but I feel like every time I come back from my parents, I do so with itchy eyes and a cough and a runny nose. Booo. At least I got to see the kitties.

Kirk and I drove down Friday night with no traffic to Vineland, stopping only for a fabulous and nutritious Roy Rogers meal. Mm-mm, bitch! My parents are trying to take a hit out on me, so they've signed me up for some sort of life insurance, which means signing papers and discussing stock options. My experience with knowledge of the stock market stretches to a summer class I took in the fourth grade, and all my stock tanked because I only wanted to invest in things important to an 8-year old, like Hershey and Schwinn and Nickelodeon. So it involved me pointing at things and saying, "Uh, yeah, I like Science and Technology! And, um, Equity Cap sounds good!" Then we started yet another high pile of laundry and crashed on the couch to the strains of Cartoon Network.

Saturday we went down the shore! YAY BEACH! We walked the boardwalk in Ocean City, which I remember being much more entertaining when I was a psuedo-hippie high schooler and loved going into the Surf Mall and Henna and all those patchouli stink stores and buying subversive pins to decorate my little woven purse. I shudder at the thought that I've outgrown Ocean City. But I did find out that one of the surf shops gives affordable surfing lessons every day, so maybe I'll head down there occasionally for those. It's only 2 hours for $30, but it's still less than my previous plans of flying out to Santa Monica for a week and having lessons.

So we played Mini Golf (Kirk won, and that's counting the cheating I did by sweeping the ball into the hole), and we had milkshakes and smoothies and Mack & Manco's pizza and successfully defended curly fries from seagulls. Those bitches have gotten especially vicious. I also remember being able to walk the boardwalk in crazy shoes and coming back A-OK. This time I had some little wooden Dr. Scholl's knockoffs, and came back like my feet were on fire.

AND THEN I HAD A CHEESESTEAK OH DEAR LORD HOW I'VE MISSED CHESSESTEAKS! We came home all full from shakes and steaks and curled up in a pillow-and-blankie nest on the floor and watched old VHS-recorded episodes of MST3K (though "Attack of the the Eye Creatures" has a serious tracking problem and "Time Chasers" has terrible volume).

Sunday we came back and went to Jeff and Grace's for a new apartment/find the kitty party. There were mixed drinks and beer I could actually stomach! Yay! We are old people who have to work, so we left at 10:30ish and caught Venture Brothers and Robot Chicken. Yay for nice weekends.

Aaron is from South Jersey and it drives me crazy going there. I like Manhattan and cities, but he likes hiking in the woods! It's a bit of a clash.
