I once read an awful Sailor Moon MST on ffn (when they were still allowed), and in the author's note, the girl said, "Does anybody really know what MST means? :: giggle ::"

That is all kinds of wrong. You'd think that people doing MSTs would be... oh, I dunno... smarter than that.

MST3K is Mystery Science Theater 3000, a fantastic show that originated in Minnesota Public TV, moved to Comedy Central, then onto Sci-Fi, before falling into the abyss known as cancellation. It starred a guy and his robot pals, and they sat around and made fun of bad movies. Really. And it was wunnerful.

Crow is one of the robots. Tom Servo was the other. The first guy was Joel Robinson, replaced by Mike Nelson in the fifth season (show ran for 9 seasons).

The phrase "MST" was borrowed by fanfic writers and used whenever they found a bad fic and would write a fic which not only contained the aforementioned story, but made fun of it. This made bad authors piss and moan until Fanfiction.Net declared MSTs banned from the site. Some fic MSTs are good. Most are bad. Two favourites are megane 6.7 and Captain Zefram, both of whom have their own sites that I don't have links for right now.
