Animaniacs is coming out on DVD! I wonder if this is one of those shows from my youth that aged well and I'll still enjoy. I hope I hope I hope. Also, Pinky and the Brain will be coming out, too, but I just never cared for that show as much.

I actually am excited for it! I've been watching all week, and they have some really freaky bumpers on the show. Like I stay up and watch 5 minutes of whatever's on next to get the image of slowly laughing Belding out of my head.

Now I'll have to tape that tonight to see slowly laughing Belding. :) (I'm old, I can't hang 'til 12.)

You forgot those hippos but those were even worse than the exploding girl and Slappy Squirrel sketches. Hell, I forgot how many awful sets of characters there were on Animaniacs. I hope the Warners are still funny, though.

Oh God the rich hippos! Man, I forget their names, too. I think there were only 3 sketches with them, though, so they didn't catch on.

Much like real hippos (at least in terms of my own life), they were very elusive, yet always in the opening credits. And they SUCKED! Those guys were totally conceived at the end of a long day and were tacked on by accident. "I know, they're hippos...and...um...they're rich! And they're always making fat jokes...yeah. Fuck, I don't care, maybe they have accents, too. Let's go home."

Also, I loved the Goodpigeons and the Godpigeon most of all. It was always the same joke with him but it was always funny.

Not that it was a running thing, but the episode of quasi-music-video-sketches set to stuff from They Might Be Giant's "Flood" was a watershed moment in cartooning. Either that, or it was just really freakin' cool.

I think that was Tiny Toons you're thinking of. They did a few episodes that parodied MTV and the like, and set music videos to Particle Man and Istanbul.

Man, I hate it when I get my early-90s cartoon spinoffs mixed up.

Also, Mindy & Buttons played out the "if it's annoying, it must be funny" idea more than a decade before the current crop of SNLers, which is saying something about one or the other or both.

The "OkayILoveYouByeBye!" line was cute, and that was pretty much the only payoff for me to watch those sketches and not wander into the kitchen for a snack.

I couldn't stand those. Watching a dog suffer is not my idea of fun amusement happy time.

Watching a dog suffer due to parental negligence is also not fun happy time. This may also be why I never liked Rugrats.

I LOVED Wakko's songs. Like when he belched the Blue Danube (IIRC), and who can forget the States and Their Capitals, and the Countries of the World...

Dude, I had (maybe still have?) the CD, including the ten-minute song "I'm Mad" that went with the animated short that was presented at the top of some theatre-released WB animated movie.

Wheel of Morality, turn turn turn, what is the lesson that we should learn?

I always thought of those as different from the normal Warners sketches. :D
