Embarrassment
Oct. 22nd, 2002 12:15 amSo after my triumphant recruiting yesterday, Kelly gives me a call.
"So, um, why did I hear that the Open House went bad?"
"Uh...........what?" We got rid of most our fliers. All our newsletters were gone. I made people smile and laugh as I handed out propaganda. What?
"I've heard from a couple people that we should be embarrassed of the way we were represented at the Open House. It wasn't at all professional."
"Oh, I'm sorry. If you'd like, I can act 'professional' like every other student there. I'm pretty good at acting like I'm bored out of my mind. Lamba Pi Eta was very professional, then."
"No, no, I'm not saying that. I mean, being unique is part of your personality, and I'm not asking you to change your personality. I'm just wondering if you have anything, like, personal against us. You know, since Thursday."
I wonder if she can actually hear my open-mouthed gape into the phone. "If you're asking if I tried to sabotage the club, no. I think I'd sabotage it more by acting like I hated the group and could care less about getting our information out there."
"Well, I mean, I'm just wondering. Because some people told us it wasn't very professional, and, like, since the convention, like we said at the meeting, we've all kinda had our eyes opened to professionalism and trying to become more like that."
"Yeah, well, I don't like the professional attitude. I know I joined Women in Communications instead of Lambda Pi Eta because LPE was boring and full of dull people, but I had fun at WiC. Now I don't have fun anymore. In fact, I hate going to WiC. It's like a class I want to skip."
"Well, you know, it's like, you have your group of people you hang out with, but at clubs, you're professional and get stuff done. Like, at the Cinema Workshop meetings I've been to, it was always very professional and serious, and then after the meetings people hung out with friends."
I should alert Sean and Lindsay. Apparently there's some sort of group on campus falsely calling itself Cinema Workshop. Maybe she was at the meeting last year where Boorboor proposed his script.
"And, you know, I'm just kinda wondering if you're giving your all for us sometimes."
Since Thursday, I've made a flier for the next guest speaker. I've been working on a pamphlet that would be printed on both sides, and look professional. If she wants me to put down the Playstation controller and hang out in Hawthorne 104 all day, plotting a feministic overthrow of campus, she's got another thing coming. "You know what? You're right. I haven't been giving my all."
"Really."
"Nope. Sorry."
"You know, I'm just saying if this is a personal thing, I'd prefer you come to us about it instead of going behind backs."
I'm a loner by nature. All my closest on-campus friends live in this apartment. I haven't been spreading gossip around campus - "Ohmigosh, they were so totally mean to me, and lectured me and stuff! What bitches! :: tear tear ::" Unless someone's been reading my LJ and reporting back to the E-board...Oh no! :: shudders with fear :: As I said before, they were more uncomfortable confronting me than I was being confronted. As Jez said, "Casey doesn't really do the 'angry' thing." (Well, there are a few exceptions, but they usually involve someone calling anime 'cartoons'.)
I'd like to point out here that no one has ever seen myself and the Maryland sniper in the same room.
I sort of blocked out the rest of the phone call and I remember hanging up...Polly was really angry though. She took a stand and sent out an angry email. Again, you go girl.
In other news, I'm on the third disk of FFVII and ripe to kick some fuckin' asses.

Date: 2002-10-21 10:20 pm (UTC)If they're going to accuse you of sabotaging the group, then I say go for it!
I suggest putting an image similar to the one in the last panel here (http://www.exploitationnow.com/d/20001009.html) on your next flier. I mean, hell, if these dorks are going to try to push you out, at least go out with a bang. Muahaha.

Date: 2002-10-22 08:40 am (UTC)But compromise is important, so maybe if you could talk to the person (I don't know who the codes are, and that's OK, because I don't think I need/want too) that you are having the most problems with 1 on 1 (instead of the e-board vs. you)and explain things. I think that would be best. You have been there from the beginning! That means something!
