Another Deep Throat opinion piece by Ben Stein. I find the ad at the top asking us to Save America from the Radical Ideas of Hilary Clinton more interesting.

=^..^=

[EDIT]: For all intents and purposes, let's call Ben Stein a celebrity, as he seems to be more known as an actor and game show host than a great political mind.

When a liberal celebrity talks about Dubya, s/he is told to shut up and stick to his/her day job. Does BS have some special standing afforded to him, since he once worked the political realm (despite working for the man he now canonizes), or is this just because he's conservative and he's not being challenged? Discuss amongst yaselves.

I'm afraid to click. American Spectator magazine? He has a monthly column in that mag, has for years. (My dad used to get it.)

It used to be my least unfavorite of the bunch, since it was mostly snottiness and not, y'know, big lurid screaming Photoshop montages of Clinton and dead babies and Hitler. AS was merely that kid who thinks he's hot shit and refuses to listen to anyone else's opinion: mildly irritating but not batshit.

...wow, I got really bored visiting there, didn't I.

Wow. That hit Godwin's Law, and "yer a traitor to all us JEWZ" and even ended with a lovely Support Our Troops bit.
Funny, that, since most reporting on the troops had been banned, like, oh, those respectful shots of the returning dead, and the level of desertions, and the fact that you can't apply for CO status in a volunteer army.

I love Jim Lehrer's NewsHour. Ben Stein, you used to be my man, but I am so dumping you for Gwen Eiffel.

And I want to clck that banner to find out just what radicale ideas that square-toed man-hating liberal senator person is inflicting on all us poor red-bluded Amer'kans, but I have too much fear.

I DID click the banner, and I have no idea. They promised to tell me the TRUTH (in all caps) repeatedly, and that she and Bill were just awful people for attacking their detractors, but not exactly what she's planning that's so gosh-darn awful.

=^..^=

This turned into a mini-rant

See, when a Liberal says something negative, it stems from hatred and false fact and a desire to surrender to the terrorists who hate our freedoms and want us to all speak French. But when a Conservative says something negative, they are actually either presenting facts that the liberal media wants to conceal, or else just expressing their opinion, as is guaranteed somewhere in the Constitution, right under the part where activist judges can't give us faggots equal rights, but activist judges can force some poor woman to live just a little while longer.

Ben Stein is considered not only a Conservative (and therefore right), but he also once told Nixon what to say, so he must have the smarts. Because as we all know, Nixon was eloquent and fair and christ, Stein! Felt's ghostwriter was damn close to Nixon and thought he was a good guy and even he says that the man had no morals!

And don't even get me started on Bush's mandate, or that we can't argue with the gov'ment because we're at war, and questioning authority is giving money and babies to the terrorists, or the breeding program where erectile dysfunction pills are available with state- and government-funded medical programs, but condoms are just as bad as abortions, and spare IVF embryos should all totally have the right to vote. Totally. Caro-fucking-sel.

And today? 'Dog is filled with hate and grrr.

(Have you noticed how Mark Felt looks like one of those old Nazi war criminals they find in Bolivia or Paraguay? That same, haunted, hunted look combined with a glee at what he has managed to get away with so far?)

So Ben Stein's argument is "he looks like a douchebag"?

Could that maybe be because Felt is like 900 years old?

Man, Stein's logic here hurts me. And usually I kinda like him. Or at least, I've enjoyed his show a few times. ::sigh:: This is a sad reminder.

In this Felt/Nixon situation I see it as dog eating dog. Nixon wasn't a nice guy, and he did criminal activity in an abuse of power. He's not a hero. Felt isn't a nice guy or a hero either; he leaked info on the president's illegal activities because the man didn't give him the job he wanted. That's not heroic motivation.

I don't feel particularly sorry for either of them. Shit happens. Nixon fucked up, and if didn't want to be arrested he should not be doing illegal stuff, or at least he shouldn't have been so careless as to let it get out to someone like Felt.

You know, I have to say this... he just, sounds really bitter. And I suppose that makes sense, I guess, all things considering. (I had no idea his job in the Nixon administration meant so much to him.) But dammit, Ben, get the HELL over it. No matter what you think of Nixon, history is not Nixon's friend. He WILL go down as being a bad guy in all of this, and all this brou ha ha that you insist on stirring up is making you look like a dick.
