Animerica is changing its format to be released as two separate magazines: one version will be handed out free at conventions, and will be tailored and customized to those cons. The second version will be a condensed digest, released quarterly for free at Borders/Waldenbooks.
I find this interesting. I was never an Animerica fan, even before there were other anime mag choices: their articles always seemed to be at least 6 months behind. Since anime fans are largely internet savvy anyway, the newest news was always free online. But it was always good to pick up when Sailor Moon was on the cover or something.
After being a thin $5 magazine with not a lot new to report, why the sudden shift? Their parent company is Viz, I can't imagine they've run into financial troubles. (Plus it would cost more money to print up special issues for specific cons, only to give them away for free.)
Anyone know anything more?
