Man, only the first week and I've already decided 2 DVDs gotta go.

Aladdin
I find this curious thing keeps happening with Disney films. The ones I adored as a kid I now can't get into, and the ones that bored me to death as a kid I unconditionally love. Aladdin falls into the former category. It's worth keeping around and Robin Williams is always entertaining, but I just can't get into it. Oh well, it has some entertaining special features.

----

American Wedding
Oh my God, was this awful. Okay, one movie of a series of awful and embarrassing things happening to high school guys, whatever. A sequel full of a series of awful and embarrassing things happening to college guys, fine. A third movie, in which we are supposed to believe they're all adults, and yet are completely unsuspecting to a series of awful and embarrassing and CONTRIVED things happening to them? Let it be over. Please. Please, no one tell me if they're making a fourth. Goes in the "For Sale/Tradein" pile.

----

Aquarian Age
This show doesn't know what it wants to be about, that's the problem. There are these guys in a band, and they want to make it big. There's a big idol singer who antagonizes them. "Oh, okay, so it's like Gravitation, without teh ghey." Well, there are also all these girls, and they think the lead singer in the band is really cute. And they fight over him. "Okay, so like a harem show with music." Well, really fight. Like, they transform into these inter-dimensional women or some shit and battle it out. "Fine. Tenchi Muyo with music." Right, but with less personality since there are only 13 episodes and so many characters, we can't really get a feel for any of them. Oh, and there's a card game they try to sell with it.

"So we have a show with a band of guys and a rival pop star that features lots of girls, some in revealing attire, who wage interdimensional war with each other, some with agendas, some being used by pawns as others, and though it's fairly character-driven, we don't care about any of the characters."

Pretty much. I'll try this one on ebay first, since it's autographed by four voice actors and the dub director.

Angel, Season 1
Man, this show was fun. I think I like the episodic format better than the overarching storylines with a Big Bad. I also liked Kate and Angel together, and I find I still do. They're fun. Can I have a One Fun Pairing? OFP? Faith is neat, Wesley's wacky, Doyle smushed my heart into pieces, Cordelia's well, Cordelia. And Lindsey. And Lilah! Oh, Wolfram & Hart, how I've missed you. And all the crossovers with Buffy. Spike! Spike is still bad and not love's bitch! FUN! Looking forward to seasons 2 & 3 from [livejournal.com profile] missandrony.

Not Aladdin! Please God, not Aladdin!! I'm voting American Wedding off the [livejournal.com profile] fadingembers island.

I marathoned all three Aladdin films quite recently. Aladdin's dad is sexy.

Hee. It's not a matter of "Two of these must go!" - American Wedding is definitely in the "get rid of" pile, and Aquarian Age is waiting to be scanned for eBay.

I remember liking Return of Jafar and King of Thieves - the former because of the songs and the latter because of RW - but again, it seems the Disney movies I liked as a kid have soured on me now. For example, I have Beauty and the Beast and Sleeping Beauty, which I never really got into as a kid - and now I adore them. Maybe it's because I used to be a tomboy, and now I just want to be a friggin' princess.

Say no to American Wedding. American Pie was amusing in its own way, but any and all sequels were avoided like the plague. While I don't mind Aladdin as a whole, I can only take so much of Jasmine's bitchiness. Jafar rocks the house though.

That's word! And I never get tired of the guys who go, 'He's got the monkeys! Let's see the monkeys!' in the 'Prince Ali' number. Maybe I -have- watched this too much...

Season 1 is my favorite season of Angel, right up there with season 5. I think they both had just the right amount of a seasonal arc balanced with stand alone episodes that were great fun to watch. Season One wins out, in the end, because I just like the feel of the earlier episodes better. Doyle, bitch!Cordy, bumbling!Wes (though I do love what happened with him later on, probably the best character in the show) and brooding!Angel. Man! Thank god for DVDs. :) I think I have to go watch City Of... now.

City of... is a great episode! All of these are, as I rewatch them, and I think that's what's great. When you have one overarching plot, you have your bad episodes where nothing really happens, you have your busy episodes where they do a lot of footwork etc, you have your good episodes where the villain is defeated or someone dies or a major plot shift occurs. But with these little one shots, it's all right there - the danger, the snark, the plot twist (I've Got You Under My Skin, for one), all wrapped up in 45 minutes. Considering how dark the show is, I can definitely say Season 1 is the most FUN of all the seasons.

I watched Aladdin a few months ago and it was really... blah. Plus it seemed to go really fast. I don't know what was up with that.

Angel season 1... Ah, how I miss that. I loved Doyle and when he left, I couldn't get into it the same way. Maybe I just really liked looking at him... ^^;
