Soap Operas!

So OMG Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon is incredibly good. Much better than I had expected. When a book is adapted into a movie or TV show, and people complain, "OMG! It's not exactly like the book!" I think, "GOOD!" This show proves that. The anime was repetetive, the manga sometimes seemed to run too fast (and had its moments of "What the Hell just happened? Oh, the villain's already dead?"). This show is a silly sentai half-hour. And then, somehow, under the radar, it manages to slip in characterization and plot and each person has their own story and secrets going on. It's awesome and I need more.
And Ami-chan looks so much cuter evil! And Mako-chan punched Tuxedo Mask! AWESOME!

jaina earlier this evening, this show is really fun because you feel bad for what happens to the characters, and then a moment later you realize they deserve everything they get. "Oh no, Bree's husband left her! Well, she is a crazy bitch. Look, she's ruining her son's life! Though her son DID get drunk and then drive his brand new car into a little old lady, putting her into a coma. Though that little old lady was spying on her daughter-in-law, and really did run into the road out of nowhere. Though that daughter-in-law was cheating on her husband with the sweet yard boy. Though the yard boy knows his lover is married, and is also dating a girl at his high school..." etc.
Picked up the Adolescence of Utena manga today. I don't like Chiho Saito's art style, and that's always hindered my enjoyment of the manga. On top of the old-school style, her characters never seem to have emotions in their eyes. Like they're all mannequins, and their bodies are posed in the act of "I'm shocked!" but it never quite reaches their faces. So while the manga isn't as pretty as the movie, it does explain A LOT more. Like, the movie would say "There is no prince in the flesh; that's why we duel." But the manga actually explains wtf that means. Also, no Super Car Power! Make up!
