Jul. 9th, 2004 06:32 pmIn early May, I bid on Ah! My Goddess, the Movie DVD on eBay. I was still adjusting to working in NY, and cash was a little tight, what with the commuting costs. It took me two weeks to pay. Yes, yes, I know that's naughty. So I was patient with the seller when I didn't receive the item within a week. Or a couple weeks. Or after I had made two separate purchases on DeepDiscountDVD.com, and they both arrived before my eBay order.
I sent the seller a nice email asking if she had sent out the package yet, or if everything had gone okay. This was what I got in return:
"Ah, you must be the one that didn't pay for the item
bought till a month and a half after the payment due
date. I've been out of town and just got back, and
found out that someone *finally* paid. No, I
haven't sent it out yet. You're lucky that I didn't
just resell it since you ignored all of my emails,
invoices, and other attempts at communication, and
refused to let me know why you wouldn't pay me on
time.
I need to know what your address is, and I'd really
appreciate an explaination. I also need to see if
there is any way I can find that invoice and make
sure that you paid me the correct amount in the
first place."
Nice to see you, too. Here's my response:
"That must be someone else. I paid two weeks after the auction ended (and yes, paid the full amount), and I can understand your impatience. Because I've actually been waiting a month and a half to receive my item. I wish someone would *finally* send it.
If you would like to give up on me and resell, please, feel free. After you refund me my Paypal payment. That would save you all that trouble of looking for the invoice and doing all that hard math to double-check my payment.
Fondest regards,
RyokoMeino"
Quick question - Am I the asshole here? I've been both an eBay buyer and seller, so I know what it's like on both sides. In the two-odd years I've been on eBay, I've never had a negative comment. And I did reply to her emails, because when I'm paying a little late, I let sellers know. The auction closed May 5. I paid May 21. It's now July 9. She must've been out of town for a long time, and coincidentally returned just today, in time to send me a prompt response to my email.
Honestly here, am I in the wrong? Is she? Are both of us?

Date: 2004-07-09 05:57 pm (UTC)Though I can't really say anything anymore. I bid on an item so I could intentionally not pay for it, thereby getting suspended from ebay, and curing my online shopping addiction. So I'm surely worse than either of you.
