Man. Jem.

I still like the music at least.

Lessons learned from Jem:
1. It's okay if your boyfriend is two-timing you with...yourself. But heaven forbid you so much as look at another man. Or another man looks at you, really.

2. There's no problem, no matter how large, or how much money involved, that can't be solved through a battle of the bands.

3. Breaking into song - complete with music video - is commonplace for the rich and famous.

4. You can call people trash and get away with it if the show's named after you.

5. Holograms can do ANYTHING. World peace could be achieved through earrings.

6. Rio is a dick. See point 1.

Ah! Jem. America's classic magical girl show (as it were).

Remember kids: punk bands are evil!

Believe me, watching the first several episodes has been interesting. Yeah, Rio's a dick, but at least, in the beginning, he tried to resist Jem for Jerrica's sake. And she did try to tell him. ^^;;

But yes, he's still a dick. I wanna see Riot!!!!

Okay, you got me curious, so I went hunting around and found this review online somewhere of "Jem":

Jem and the Holograms was the premier cartoon about a fantasy world of girl-glam rock. It was every little girl's dream at one point to grow up and be a rock star like Jem. The cartoon totally encapsulates not only the fashions and lingo of the late 80s, but also the culture, ideals, and desires of the great decade.

And then I thought, "Oh yeah! I remember that... wait a minute, what did that say? I lived in the 80s, and I'm dead sure there wasn't a slip of culture or idealism worth remembering. There was loads of desires, but all of them were shallow." I mean, if you want to really understand the culture of the 80s, you have to watch American Gigolo.

Jem? Ew.

Heh. Culture and ideals. Well, there was an episode called "The World Hunger Shindig." And the song they performed involved lots of starving kids in Africa getting down to Jem and the Holograms' outrageous beats. Because they wouldn't immediately gorge themselves on the food they brought.
