Oscar Night!
Feb. 29th, 2004 09:13 pmYeah, guess where I'll be for the night and early morning?
Went shopping with mom today to pick up some curtains for my closet. Think I got some pretty things ^_^
For all you ladies out there, I picked up a magazine today called Bust. It was 118 pages, $5, and well worth it. I never knew it had existed! I wish I had before now. See, I like checking out feminist mags, and most of them either are poseur fem ("OMG we're the mag for grrrrlz! Here's how to find and keep a man!"), or make me feel that I'm obviously part of the patriarchy for liking penises and all. But Bust was good. This was the "freaks and geeks" issue, with articles about women of the circus, how librarians are the sexy new "it" girl, female graffiti artists, and Tina Fey as the cover story. (Also, lots and lots of really neat ads that I'd like to check out, as opposed to "Maybe it's Maybelline") I'm subscribing ^_^
Hee. Michael Moore. Why were his words incendiary and unwelcome, but Billy Crystal's jokes are applauded?
I'm sure there were plenty of great animated films made around the world this year - I've heard nothing but good things about Millennium Actress - so why is it every year since this category was created, it's all the released Disney films, with something foreign thrown in for good measure?
Will complain later.

Date: 2004-03-01 05:09 am (UTC)Well, see, he was making a political statement instead of a joke. Plus, y'know, it wasn't *trendy* last year.
Though I loved the fact he was willing to get himself squished by an olophant. :)
Re: Animated films
I think there were two things playing against Millennium Actress. One was the fact that there were only three slots available for nomination. And two - and I'm not entirely certain on this one - it was technically released in 2001-2002. It only got imported to the States last fall, so it may have not have actually qualified.
