Look out! I'm bitching!
Nov. 22nd, 2003 08:49 pmI'm glad that my Trigun mailing lists have been so popular lately. One thing I hate is being part of a community that really never does/talks about anything.
But if ONE MORE PERSON fucking posts "I wish they made more Trigun! I heard from a friend who works in the anime industry that they're making more Trigun episodes!" they're gonna lose an arm.
You know why a lot of anime is soooo good?
Because a series is 26 episodes, tells one complete story, and is done with it. It doesn't end seasons with cliffhangers, to pull in ratings and hope people return next year. No one gets older and fatter or pregnant or has a salary dispute and leaves. You don't have to see a show you once loved with a passion stumble around with weak plots pivoted around sweeps week guest stars.
It's a great show BECAUSE it leaves you wanting more. Which you probably shouldn't get.
Trigun leaves off at a good spot. The villain is captured, Vash has beaten his emotional/mental demons, and he came back to the girls. I don't care if the manga is still going; it's going in a COMPLETELY different direction. And really, what could happen if the anime picked up where it left off? We sit around watching Vash, Meryl, and Milly around the house, waiting for Knives to wake up? Or maybe Vash would return, get kicked out of town, and every episode would involve some wacky people chasing Vash or busting up the town and Vash saves everybody, and they just keep moving from town to town. With Knives passed out in the bed of the truck ^_^ Whatever happens, it won't measure up to the original. That you love.
And while I'm on a roll, let me protect myself from the rabid anime fans as I say this: 26 episodes of Cowboy Bebop was enough, thank you.
Oh, and I got Noir V.3 for $15 today.

Date: 2003-11-22 09:56 pm (UTC)Maybe they'll continue on with some OAVs or something, but there definately isn't going to be another 41 episodes being shown on television for the immediate future. Of course, there have been shows that halted in the past before all their story arcs got completed and later got the rest of them, so there is hope at least.
