Tired and bored. Zzzzzzz.

I know at least one of you is a doctor (sorta almost), so somebody diagnose me. I was helping my mom move heavy oak furniture on Sunday, and now my symptom is STABBING FUCKING PAIN (ICD-9 Code 666) where my hip meets my leg.

Can Motrin and an apple a day fix this?

(Psst...I know Code 666 is really for postpartum hehemorrhage, but I use the number because it feels like Satan is stabbing my muscles with a teensy, red-hot pitchfork.)

I'm not a doctor, but that seems like you pulled a ligament. Erm, I usually take care of those by alternating hot and cold compresses every 10 minutes until the Tylenol kicks in, and taking it easy. The compresses help blood flow get through the area and clean it out and bring in all the good healing nutrients I hope you have in your blood, and the Tylenol keeps the blood from *staying* and making you swollen and bitchy. ~_^

To put it in extremely scientific terms, sounds like you pulled something. A ligament would be my guess. Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do for it. Try not to put any additional strain on it. If it's a chronic pain, warm compresses may help to relax the muscles around the area (as well as hot baths). If it's a new pain, icing the area may actually work better than heat. There may be some inflammation, so taking NSAIDs like motrin or ibuprofen (also aspirin, tylenol, etc.) will probably help. A trick my mom's doctor told her for some muscle cramping that's especially bad in the morning - if your muscles are stiff and achey in the morning, try taking a tylenol before you go to bed and see if it helps when you get up. Also, don't load up on apsirin or ibuprofen. These drugs can increase your susceptibility to ulcer formation. Instead, try switching it up by taking tylenol twice a day and apsirin the other two times, rather than taking aspirin all four times. If the pain does start to go away with the aspirin, or if it persists without getting better at all even after a week, you may want to consider seeing your doctor.

Sorry this is so late. :) I've been studying my arse off for Endocrinology. Hope you're feeling better, Casey!!!!!!!!
