When I brush it? Very hard. We're talking uberhard here. The curls get all tangly and more often than not, tears spring to my eyes. What I usually do is wash it daily, then comb it while it's still wet (and straight), then just spray gel all over the place. As it dries, it curls up by itself, and the gel holds it there. In theory.
