Look! A man-hating lesbian yaoi fan gives a whole essay about why yaoi rules!

1. Men are nasty, but men acting like women and having sex with each other are sexy! Only make yuri/femmeslash to get het female characters out of the way.

2. Rape is fun and sexy! So is anal blood!

3. Never, ever, ever, EVER follow canon. Making characters act like their established selves just gets in the way of cock.

There's an MST also, but it wouldn't load all the way for me. If you get to see it all, though, 'tis funny.

My favorite jarring use of fangirl japanese was "Watashi's" instead of "mine"

My only response to this is, "if we were only judged by our holes"... fit that in wherever you'd like.

Would this yaoi-er therefore consider herself phallistastic, or would that be a contradic(heehee, 'dic')tion in terms?

I don't have any idea. The way she talks about men, I don't know if she's ever actually met one, only heard about them on tv. She also calls herself a "yaoi insider." I don't know how one can be a yaoi insider without being a gay man.

well then, that means everyone but the hard working farmers of middle America know what yaoi is, because according to Fox News, the entire nation- hell, the entire world is just one big gayfest now! GAY GAY GAY! (Really, they were on this kick for an entire day of broadcasting this week... it was almost as if they were suddenly being run by undersexed, frustrated single women in their 20s and 30s, at least those of us who don't subscribe to yaoi.)

Ah, the Aestheticism crowd. I admit that I belong to Aestheticism so that I can buy any dj I want, but there's a lot going on behind the scenes there. On the mailing list, Jeanne (author) and about two other rabid man-haters pounce on anyone who's got a differing point of view, and it can get pretty childish. A friend of mine who is into yaoi attempted to get in on some of the discussions, but between Jeanne, Nora, and the other one, she finally gave up in disgust.

Yaoi girls will tell you that it's all about not being in character. It is impossible to make the rabid ones concede any point here. Believe me, I've tried.

What baffles me is that it's okay to make the male characters OOC so they'll sleep together, but not okay to make the female characters OOC so they'll fit into whatever acceptable woman mode the author wants.

Also, how can one be a man-hating yaoi fan? If you hate men so much, why do you want them to be naked and sweaty and do the squelchy?

Third, what kind of person are you that you couldn't even place yourself in your own fantasies?

I can only suspend my disbelief so much. Vampire princesses, strange beings in light bulbs, castles of eternity that float upside down in the sky, whatever. Men who aren't attracted to me? Tch, please.

It's also annoying that (for some reason) yaoi is so much respectable and beautiful than icky old m/f sex. I will concede that a lot of the hentai out there is wank-off material, and there's not a lot to be done about it; the man is salacious and the woman cries and that's the end of the story. But yaoi isn't any different! The uke looks like he's in mortal pain, the seme never breaks a sweat, lubricant magically appears from nowhere, and so on and so forth.

Not all yaoi fans are man-haters. A lot of them seem to be immature teens who don't appear to be mentally ready for dealing with scenarios that might involve them being with someone (i.e. it's safer to watch, and bishounen aren't manly, and so they aren't threatening.) Some of them just like seeing pretty boys together, and are cool with pretty girls and pretty m/f couples too. It's the female ones who claim that nothing's as beautiful or pure as a m/m couple that piss me off the most. How much more misogynist can you possibly get?

/end rant

Men who aren't attracted to me? Tch, please.

Shake that thang, sexy mama.

(actually, that reminds me of a simple reason I gave to yaoi-girl friend when we were talking about yaoi vs. het: "Men who are attracted to other men are not going to be attracted to me." And when one lives vicariously...)

Heh. Ever since that essay was linked to way way way back on f_wank, I've forced people to read it at intervals. The carefully maintained depth of the stupidity in it fascinates me.

Not least the idea that no one but gay men ever, ever do anything anal.

Duh. They're also the only ones that perform fellatio, too.

I liked the "Do you ever bash Utena to get Touga and Saionji together?" bit. Please. The only time Utena is between those two is here.
