Miss Congeniality is funny and cute, yet it really bugs me. Watching it tonight on TBS, I know why.

It's not really a Sandra Bullock movie. I mean, c'mon. Who went to that and thought she was a dog in the beginning? Who read that script and said "Sandra Bullock is perfect for an ugly duckling story!" It really feels more like a Janeane Garofalo gig.

That, and the ending, where she and Ben Bratt get together. I like to call those "congeniality endings," not named so because of this movie. It also happened in this summer's Italian Job. The lead male and female get hooked up, even though there was no romance and no chemistry. Why? Because they're man and woman, duh! You're only truly happy in life if you achieve heterosexual love! Those two characters had nothing going for them. He's dating cute little blonde women, and mocking her masculinity while she's being herself. Suddenly, she's "pretty" (again, it's Sandra Bullock - when isn't she pretty?), and he's totally hot for her, and thus...romance! Blah. The movie would have been better without their stupid little get together to sour it at the end for me.

Hee, Home Movies.

The male and female leads had been dating at the beginning of the movie, before her dad got killed.

Really? Dude, I totally missed that part. Still, I didn't think they had any chemistry. :p

If your boyfriend had been responsible for the death of your father, you might be a little cool toward him. ;)
