I'm thinking of getting a tattoo, and was wondering how many people on my friends page have one. How much does it hurt? How much does it cost? How much alcohol should I drink beforehand so I don't make with the pain? I don't like the pain.

Date: 2003-04-23 06:26 am (UTC)like someone else said, you shouldn't drink or take asprin because it thins your blood and will make you bleed a lot. (remind me to post the pic of my back, mid-tattooing. red ink dripping all over mixed with my back bleeding a lot. it sounds horrendous, but looks pretty cool)
now as far as pain goes, it's very much tolerable. my tattoo took almost 4 hours in one sitting and there was never a time when i was like 'ok, stop'. the pain is very much like what it would feel like if someone put a cigarette down on your skin. i know that sounds pretty bad, but the pain only lasts when the needle is touching you. as soon as the needle is lifted, the pain stops completely. so literally, the experience is like 'ow, ow, ok..... ow, ow, ok..... ow, ow, ok.....' it's more of an annoying, bothersome pain really. so basically, it's all about effective pain management, cause you get breaks in between the pain. after it's over, depending on how long it took and where it is, you might have sore muscles from a combination of adrenaline (i swear - i'm not just trying to sound macho) and from tightening your muscles and all while it's being done. also, after it's over, it'll obviously be a little tender to touch, so no horseplay.
if you have anything else specific to ask, feel free to IM me or reply here.
