I don't know yet. The epilogue rubbed me the wrong way, like they had a contest for "which child can write the bestest epilogue?" and the winner is Sophie Chesterton, Age 11. Seriously? Babies everywhere? (Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] jaina.)

I threw it in my bag to reread it, since that first reading was the rushed reading of "What happens? Who dies? How will they defeat Voldemort? I have to finish reading before I hear spoilers on LJ!" There are a few things I don't quite understand, for example, "Wait, who has what wand now? Everyone got their souls? Great, hold on tight to those now. Now who killed whom and with what and how? And why, precisely, doesn't Hogwarts just kick out anyone sorted into Slytherin, since that entire house seems to be full of bad seeds?"

I was feeling down in the dumps all evening Saturday, and Kirk asked, "Sad ending or sad that it ended?" and as much as I wanted to say "Six on one, half a dozen on t'other," I think it was more the latter. Oh well, off to check out fandom_wank.

Luna Lovegood and Molly Weasley are made of win.

[edit] Also, I totally predicted 2 years ago that they wouldn't go back to Hogwarts and that Ravenclaw's thing would be one of the last Horcruces found. ...Sort of. Let me have my moments.

My feeling on that epilogue was the following: JKR had just put the final touches on the last chapter, and then for shits and giggles, she took a look at Fandom Wank. She then said, "HOLY SHIT, WHAT HAVE I DONE?" in a British accent, and scribbled up a coda that would slam the book (or so she thought) on all the bad Harry/Snape/Dumbledore threesomes. Little did she suspect that the earth would tear itself apart in the ensuing conflict.

I got confused about the wand thing too. It needed a chart.

I agree with your epilogue theory :) JKR: "LOLZ!"

Because that would make sense be racial profiling!

I liked that in book 6, she introduce Blaise Zabini, and he didn't seem that bad of a guy, and that Draco was shown to have a heart, and thought that after 5 years of Slytherins being evil, we'd be shown that some of them are decent people.

Nope.

Snape was pretty decent, all in all. If a bit emo.

I was totally pissed!!

I mean who would have expected that Harry Potter was a kung fu cyborg from the future with sick break dancing moves.

Wait that wasn't Harry Potter that was the Old Testament, sorry I get them confused

No no no, the breakdancing cyborg from the future was in the New Testament (Acts 45:1-72), but it was foretold in the Old Testament (Isaiah 78:15).

You two are made of so many levels of win that I am sitting here, crying into my ice cream, shaking my fist at the universe for not letting me win half so much.

I think panel 3 is a reference to something neither of us get, since the other three panels are Gone with the Wind, Star Wars, and Dallas. I think he should've woken up and found out it was all a dream!

See, I figured panel 3 was just the worst Monty Python reference in history.

I briefly guessed that, since he was specifically turned into a Newt, but didn't get the "You're a lizard, Harry!" quote. Unless they're really bad at Monty Python.

Well, I figured "You're a lizard, Harry!" was just making fun of the HP movie line... though mainly it brings to mind "Harry Potter and the Secret Chamberpot of Azerbajan"...

"Harry Potter and the Secret Chamberpot of Azerbajan"

I must've missed that one.

It can be found at http://britbitsandclips.com/AR_HP.htm but you have to download it from there.

If you're interested in watching a really weird, really funny parody of HP done by Comic Relief, just scroll down and its the first one on the left. Harry Potter and Secret Chamberpot of Azerbaijan. Its 17 minutes long, so if you find it on Youtube keep in that in mind.

On the subject of Slytherin...

In that bit nearish the end where Dumbledore, in Snape's flashback, says "I think we sort them too early", my first thought was "No shit sherlock, you shouldn't be sorting them all!" The whole system is ripe for things like rebellions, coups, mutinies, and civil war. "Yeah, let's just put all the sneak kids together, all the ballsy kids together, all the smart kids together, all the level-headed kids together, and see what happens when they play gang politics! Damn that's clever of us." Seriously, this whole thing could have been avoided if people like Snape were allowed to have friends and people like Riddle had to deal with people as intelligent as themselves.

I never much cared about Mrs. Weasley's character, but I liked that she was the one to duel Bellatrix.

I never gave Molly Weasley a second thought before this book. She was just sort of the red-headed mother Harry never had, and the typical overbearing housewife. I never even considered she would wield magic in a way that had nothing to do with peeling potatoes.

Same here. I was pleasantly surprised by that, and the fact that not only is she a competent wizard (I assumed that, given that her kids were talented), but she was actually a good enough duelist to beat Bellatrix. Makes me wonder why she wasn't in the ministry too.
