40cakes: (Weekend Update)

Friday:
- Made pasta and sauce and veggies and didn't even burn anything! Though we did clog the sink hardcore washing dishes. A bottle of Liquid Plumber, a plunger, and eight hours later, it was fixed.
- Watched Lupin III: The Columbus File from Netflix. You can tell what movies I was in the mood for by looking at my queue. There's a bunch of anime, then a bunch of documentaries, then a bunch of Hitchcock, all in a row. The next three or so movies are all Lupins.

Saturday:
- [livejournal.com profile] jaina had an Ohio friend coming into town so we all ventured up to New York for a day. First stop: Museum of Sex, which had a difficult-to-read exhibit on Japanese pornography from the Edo period to present day (every picture was behind a little square in a black wall, and there was practically a line to step up close and see the artwork and read the captions. Also probably features the only time Urotsukidoji and giant prints of The Bondage Fairies will ever be in a damn museum.
- Next exhibit up was about the history of stag films, and if nothing else, the asthetic setup of the gallery was brilliant. They had these white squares on the floor, and projectors in the ceiling that played the movies off of these cubes. Very cool.
- Got lunch/dinner at Prem-on, the lovely little Thai place Kirk took me for our first date. Everyone else seemed to enjoy it too, which is good. Yay for weirdo bathrooms.
- After food, went to Babeland and was indecisive. I don't know, man, sometimes I feel like everything there that I want and can afford, I own. But I still want to go in just in case they have something new and really cool. Yet I feel obligated to buy something, like I'm really weird if I'm just a regular browser there. Also I had a coupon that expired soon and wanted to use it.
- Saw Brick, which was very good. Postmodern noir, very funny. Had a good story that kept you interested, but still made light of the fact that it was high school espionage and never took itself too seriously. Great editing, too. I recommend.
- Dropped off Jaina and buddy and went out for coffee at Van Gogh's with Debbie and Ofer, and met up with [livejournal.com profile] eyepoky and his brand new very expensive laptop which is going to get stolen. It is pretty and awesome and pretty awesome. It just needs more bling. Scott, I'll glady glue Swarovski crystals all over that shit fo' you, dawg.

Sunday:
- Had the normal difficult time getting out of bed, but eventually went into Westfield to see Thank You For Smoking. I thought it was good, but Katie Holmes was terribly miscast. If every time you mention a character, another character has to speak up to remind us that she "has glorious tits", do not cast a flat-chested girl and not even attempt to give her cleavage. Seriously now, filmmaking 101. It tied into my own beliefs about personal responsibility, which I always enjoy, but didn't exactly say anything I hadn't heard before.
- Wandered around Westfield for a bit and got a smoothie (Planet Smoothie is no Jamba Juice, but they do have funny names for drinks). Went to Garlic Rose for dinner where we both had wonderful amazing delicious pasta dishes that neither of us finished. Yum.
- Came back and watched cartoons in our underwear. Aw, yeah. Though the DVD died just as Keichi is about to tell Belldandy he loves her! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Monday:
- Did not want to wake up this morning, but cannot call out of work "cozy".

I tried that "cozy" excuse, Channon didn't like it very much.

"The Runs" is a much better excuse

A note about the movie

I, being all entertainment industry focused now, noticed a flaw in the movie.
If any people haven't seen the movie, you may want to skip this.

Remember the American cheese on apple pie scene?
First, the cheese is melted, I think.
Next it is not. The female knocks the cheese awkwardly around the pie.
Third, the cheese is unmelted and back in place.
Fourth, the close up shows a very melted piece of cheese.

I KNOW I NOTICED THAT TOO!!! She totally forked the hell out of that pie, and then there's the closeup of the pie, perfectly back in place with the little flag sticking up. It drove me crazy.
