Forgotten items
Feb. 17th, 2006 10:46 amI've been so busy this week, I mostly just post silly links and birthday wishes. Last night, we went out for
zuppy28's birthday, and pictures will be posted later, but for now - here's some stuff I meant to mention, but got lost in the clutter of my brain.
- On Tuesday, Valentine's day, I hitched my normal train home instead of doing yoga. I let Kirk know I was gonna be home early, and made my merry way home. However, then we stopped before Newark Airport. After we were stuck for 10 minutes, even I sat up and took notice. There was no overhead announcement for about 15 minutes, and then we heard something that I thought said "We hit a truck on the tracks." Oof. Called Kirk, let him know I was running a bit late. Then I heard the next announcement clearly, and it said "We hit a trespasser on the tracks - he's alive, but he's very shook up, and in custody of NJ Transit police."
Holy shit. So the train moved again, I got home safely, and later told Kirk that we actually had hit a person, not a truck. I figured it was just some douchebag dicking around on the tracks that now knows better, and he said, "Actually it was probably a suicide. It IS Valentine's day." I hadn't even thought of that possibility. It seems like such an antiquated way to go - at this point, we've pretty much streamlined the entire suicide business and made it as painless and comfortable as possible. Who says "Well, gee, time to die...I'll leave behind my gas-powered house of pills and guns and go to the nearest station." Man.
- Wednesday night, one of the producers was looking for me, and called me upstairs. I thought they wanted me to take down some tapes or something menial. When I got to the top of the stairs, they saw me and said, "Oh, hey! Would you check out that sunset?" Through the windows, there was this gorgeous sunset over the concrete horizon of NYC, all pinks and purples and blues. One of them said, "Yeah, we looked out and said, "That's pretty! Who else would appreciate this? Oh - Casey!" It was a nice thought.
