Kirk: Eventually Madonna's going to get so full of plastic and so surrounded by children that she'll turn into Michael Jackson.

Oh, and "Since [Yo]U Been Gone" won a Grammy, which means that every single time [livejournal.com profile] prettykate and I get drunk and jump around to that song, we're totally justified.

Alright, I have to know what your icon's from now, because the other day someone was playing a flash movie, but by the time I got over there to see what it was, it was over, and there was just that pic of W smiling and giving the thumbs up.

Actually, that's... well, I don't want to ruin it for you, so here's the Flash movie. BTW, if you get nearly as addicted to the song as I did, I have the mp3. <3

I love how you write that song title. I'm thieving it, as every time I write it, I'm pained by it, torn between spelling it as it appears on the album, but knowing that it is sick and wrong. :)

Speaking of sick and wrong, that song is my pop über-guilty pleasure. I actually went so far as to purchase it from iTunes.

Who the fuck are you, and what have you done with K.O.?

Jesus, you've just destroyed my entire idea of good and evil. Mike B.'s only comment on my MySpace account was to heckle me for listing Kelly Clarkson among my favorite music. Fuck that, she won a Grammy! I'm validated!!!! :)

I've always enjoyed a good breakup song, and that one's catchy. I wouldn't buy her album, but she's got a decent voice.

Also, fuuuuuuuuck the Grammy. Seriously. Diana Ross, Queen, Bob Marley, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, The Beach Boys? None of them have ever won a Grammy. Elvis Presley. ELVIS PRESLEY! He's only won in the Religious category. David Bowie was only nominated once, and didn't win anything until the Lifetime Achievement Award this year. Louis Armstrong only won posthumously. And don't get me started on the pioneering rap/hip-hop artists who've never won because their careers peaked before the Grammy people even recognized their work as a genre.

Look, I don't like Britney Spears and her contemporaries. I don't think there's ever been any confusion on that point. But your affection for their "music" doesn't make you less smart, or competent, or worthwhile as a person. Sure, I'll tease you mercilessly. That's what I do. But you should just like your music because you like it. Don't look for validation from an head-in-the-artistic-sand that proudly uses as its symbol a machine that was invented in 1887!

Elvis in the Religious category? For what, making women see God?

And no, I'm not REALLY looking for validation in the Grammy. One of the most useful things I learned at Rowan and with the group of friends I acquired there was that it's OK to dig what you dig. I own both Kelly Clarkson albums without shame. My Gilmore Girls DVDs are on proud display, and I'm THIS CLOSE to constructing a Rachael Ray collage and hanging it in my living room. :)

Elvis actually recorded quite a bit of gospel in his day.

I'm sorry, I guess I'm taking out my "award mentality" anger on you. And I'm burdening Casey's comments with it while I'm at it. Sorry Casey!

Don't apologize - what else do you expect me to do at work if not reading lj comments? :)

SUBG is SO. MUCH. LOVE. Kelly is my girl. Also, I knew I forgot to do something last night aka WATCH THE GRAMMIES. I was hoping U2 would manage to snag a few.

They snagged a lot and did a couple performances. From what I watched, I don't think they actually give out Grammies AT the Grammies anymore. At the bottom of the screen, they kept flipping through "Previously Awarded," and I was all, "Yeah, yeah, world music, spoken word, audio book, alternative album of the yea-- what?!"
