A brief history of my birthday:
My birthday marks a time of miserable despair. Any birthdays that stand out in my mind are attached to bad memories. It marks another year getting older, which used to be more of a joke when I didn't notice my face powder settling into my crow's feet. After 21 I stopped counting my age, and whenever someone asks me, I have to take a moment to subtract the years. It's an event that's lumped together with Christmas by many, and I don't mind. Well, y'know, as long as gifts are separated accordingly :)
Bought some Chinee foo and hung out with
jaina in her apartment, watching Gankutsuou, courtesy of poorly-subtitled bootleg DVDs. It wasn't too hard bringing Kirk up to speed once he joined us. ("The blue-skinned vampire dude is evil, but no one else seems to notice he's a blue-skinned vampire dude. Oh, and the brunette kid totally loves him 4 realz.") Kirk brought me lots of food and presents which means I have everything I could ever need ever. After getting through the first bootleg disc, we bid goodbye to Miss Solo-Organa.
Upstairs, I tore into a giant pile of presents, which contained many good things, like a pot and pan set so I actually have more than one pot to piss in*, Jon Stewart's Naked Pictures of Famous People, From Eroica with Love vol. 3, a giant soup cookbook so I can learn how to make something other than Ramen, Red Hot Chili Pepper's Greatest Hits, and MST3K DVD collection Vol. 6 (with Teenagers from Outer Space! What about TOH-CHA?!). We then watched TfOS, which we promptly fell asleep to, as we are an elderly couple who live in a home, apparently.
Saturday we got up early and went into the city, towards the Museum of Television and Radio, where we meant to see some things about Ida Lupino for the "She Made It" stuff there, but turns out we were a week early. By incredibly lucky coincidence, there was a Superfriends cel gallery, and a screening of two 60's Batman episodes. WITH CATWOMAN. TOTALLY AWESOME.** Then there was a whole thing about the Muppets going on, and I tortured the poor guy by reliving my childhood for a couple o' hours.
When we left the MT&R, we shopped around Rockefeller Center for a bit, stopping in Nintendo World. There he got me a little pug Nintendog with a screen cleaner on its collar, and a little kitty Pokemon, and a shirt that says "Princess." We got onto a console and played some Mario Tennis, which is very realistic and true to life in the sense that I suck just as much at it as actual tennis. We popped into Rockefeller Plaza and had a big mclarge huge Two Boots pizza for dinner, covered with all sorts of greasy meat and cheese. Oops diet. We sat around for half an hour after that and digested, since we ate almost a whole pizza between the two of us.
Made our way to the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater to see Free to Be Friends, which was highly super amusing and fun. Before that, we got off the subway at the Manhattan Mall stop, and the Sanrio store pulled me in like the homing beacon it is. Kirk got me a little Japanese keychain and it's adorable but now my keys don't match my jewelery. What will Mr. Blackwell say?!
We came home at a reasonable hour and showered the city off of us, etc. We watched some more TfOS before falling asleep again, as we are ancient.
Sunday we finally finished the movie (the good guys win! Evil lobsters die!), and went to Red Lobster for some lunch, where the waiter did not bring us adequate portions of cheesy biscuits. We gorged ourselves on shrimp like the fat old people we are. Corralled up
eyepoky and
jaina for some X-Men Legends II, which consisted largely of us mocking the way the characters speak. And killing big bugs. Yay!
Sunday night we came back to my place, and settled in for a long winter's nap. But first, he brought in a little cake he had gotten me on Friday, lit up with 24 candles, turned out the lights and sang Happy Birthday to me. Then I blew out the candles (two breaths - do I still get a wish?) and we had delicious cake, which was delicious. Then we curled up and watched Boondocks together and went to sleep.
*Kidding! Kidding.
**Dude, Robin got taken out by a kitty cat. Like, a domesticated one with a little rhinestone collar. Previous to aforementioned asskicking, he said, "Holy cats! It's a cat!" 60's television was so awesome.
