Con Report! Pictures later. No, really this time.
Thursday
Did all my packing and reflected on how con packing is like college packing. I think I once brought three bags and a TV to Otakon; this time, I had a backpack, a purse, and a half-full suitcase after years of learning "No, not everyone will be interested in the things I want them to watch."
arafel and I accidentally got on the same flight (don't ask). Flight not only left on time, but we arrived to the airport early, and when we got to the luggage claim, our bags were already on the belt. SHOCK! However, we were on time and no one else's flight was. I tortured
arafel with two episodes of PGSM, and then we watched two eps of Lain, which goes to show how bored we actually were. Luckily,
scathachdhu and her sister, and
jaina arrived and then there were five. Checked in at hotel and caught up with
sarcasticval. Dinner at Steak N Shake. We talked shop (that means fandom, fic, and f_w), and due to something we referenced from Fandom_Wank (of all things), someone from an adjacent table asked us "Where do you ladies go to church?" We all gaped uncomfortably, then went back and watched some anime and played some Katamari Damarcy.
Friday
Woke up at a reasonable time Friday morning and registered - no line! Got checked in by GTO and Link. There's a pair. We checked out the dealer's room and talked about what videos we wanted to see and who we wanted autographs from. Tried to get inside info from the Anime Network table re: jobs. No luck. Headed out to Easton to get Chipotle lunch, Barnes & Noble, EBGames and such. I think I may have spent more money at the mall at Easton than I did at the con.
Did pick up in the Dealer's room: TriMax 10 & 11, a Kyo Myth bag, and a neat Utena doujinshi. And that's it. I was proud of myself. I can't get any more posters, as I don't have room for them, and I don't need plushies, and I don't buy overpriced DVDs at cons, and I can talk myself out of overpriced art books. So manga, a bag, and a doujin made me happy enough, really. I don't have anything I'm cursing myself over, saying, "Oh, I wish I had picked that up..."
Watched some mediocre AMVs (no more slow Wolf's Rain videos! PLEASE!) and then went to Mongolian BBQ, which I love muchly. But not as much as Katamari Damacy. Watched some RaXephon, I are intrigued.
Played a lot of Katamari Damacy. Best game evar. You have to make stars out of junk on earth. I heart!!!
Saturday
Got my Excel Saga box signed by Tiffany Grant and Monica Rial. Sorry, Greg Ayres. Someday I'll have a series that features all three of you enough for me to pass down the box to you, too.
sarcasticval got her Chrno Crusade box signed by all three. Went to the Anime Network raffle, and won an autographed copy of an Aquarian Age DVD (signed by Tiffany, Monica, Greg, Vic Mongongonognogna, and David Williams. Where's Illich, dammit?). Whoot. I'll watch that at some point and see if it's any good.
arafel and
jaina dressed up as Daio Chan (Dynasty Warriors) and Fuu (Samurai Champloo), respectively. I dressed as "girl who holds things as friends have pics taken." Checked out things in the artist's alley - goodness. Everything was great, but the artists I wanted to commission from were either too expensive or didn't know Trigun. Tear. Bought more stump chibis from Becky, and kept self away from the girl with all the cute Fruits Basket things.
As an interesting culture clash, the hotel/convention center was also host to "Dare 2 Share", a Christian youth conference. Apparently, they were told to witness to us, so we had a few people who were lovely and wanted to talk to us about anime suddenly shift conversations to "So what church do you guys go to? How do you feel about God and religion [are you good people, bad people, guess it doesn't matter people]?" We tried to stay pleasant and not be assholes. I don't think others kept the same outlook.
Checked out the Adult Fanfiction panel, which had some choice quotes. Will be posted later with pics. Stopped by the Deviance in Anime panel, but the smell overtook us. Hung out in the hotel bar for a bit and talked cosplay.
Sunday
Returned
scathachdhu and sister and
arafel to the airport, with hugs passed all around.
jaina and I went back to Easton to get some shopping done! Yay! I also got my boobies measured at Vicky's Secret and got weighed in for the National Body Challenge. (One was smaller than previous, one was larger. Guess which is which.) Came back to
jaina's house, where we played video games and I read through all her comics and we went to Dairy Queen and spent some time in the hot tub and I was generally a mooch. Yay! Jaina's house is very nice, as are her parents. But there's one family photo in which I swear there's a replacement kid. It doesn't look like her at all.
Monday
Played more video games at Jaina's, and then packed up to head out. First we were stuck in traffic to the airport, and I started fretting. Then traffic cleared, and I got a phone call that my flight was delayed. Yet airport didn't think my flight was delayed. Choosing to believe airport time instead of Orbitz time, I sniffled and said goodbye to Jaina and only cried once I got on the plane. But Orbitz time was right, and boarding didn't begin until 30 minutes after it was supposed to and the plane didn't actually take off until an hour afterwards. Bugger. While waiting at the gate, saw Monica and Greg waiting for their Houston plane at the next gate over. Too chicken to talk to them. Got home about 30 seconds before Rob showed up, and now he's chomping at the bit for some sex, so I'll wrap this up. Again, pics later.
Ja!

Regarding the airport - to say that we were bored enough to watch Lain says it all. It really, really does.
