- Jennie Garth will not appear on CBS' Sony TV comedy pilot My Best Friends Girl after all. Jennie may be added to The CW's new 90210 spinoff as her former character Kelly Taylor who returns to high school this time as a fashion design teacher. Kristin Booth was signed to replace Garth as the female lead.
- Yip Yip! Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies will release the newly green-lit M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender, a live-action movie adaptation of the series, on Friday, July 2, 2010. Shyamalan will direct and produce The Last Airbender from his own script. The word "Avatar" was no doubt dropped from the feature film title to steer clear of confusion with director James Cameron 3D movie Avatar, which is set for release 8 months earlier in December 2009 and is not for kids. Joining Shyamalan as producers on the project are Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall, Sam Mercer and Scott Aversano. Additionally, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, creators of the animated Avatar: The Last Airbender series, wills serve as executive producers on the movie. While Shyamalan's movies are generally for adult audiences, The Last Airbender is targeted to moviegoers of all ages, with Shyamalan pointing to Hayao Miyazaki storytelling and movies as an inspiration.
The twist is that Appa is actually the Avatar. SPOILER ALERT!
- Take-Two Interactive's hotly anticipated Grand Theft Auto IV, driving off the lot on April 29, will sell 6 million units and break $400 million in sales during its first week, predicts Variety. This would best Xbox exclusive Halo 3's $300 million first week take to make it the biggest entertainment release of all time. A first-ever multiplayer option is one of the features that has gamers salivating.
- By the way, the silly superhero, anime-inflected Tek Jensen cartoon series produced for Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert by FlickerLab, is into its second season on comedycentral.com and colbertnation.com.
..."anime-inflected"?
- Guitar Hero meet World of Warcraft. The EU approved the $9.85 billion merger between Vivendi and Activision, giving the former a 52% share in the new game publisher Activision Blizzard.
I love how they start that off by suggesting that there will be a Guitar Hero: Warcraft Edition. I guess that's for the old TV execs who otherwise don't know who/what Vivendi and Activision and Blizzard are. Cynopsis, nevar change lolz.
