Save CBGB's.

For those of you that don't know, in a nutshell...The land that CBGB is built on is owned by NYU and they are raising the rent to 40k per month, which is complete lunacy! Most of the punk rock and rock-n-roll legends we know today came out of CB's. For example: Blondie, The Ramones, Patti Smith, Iggy Pop, and many many more. Not to mention the fact that lots of bands locally and all over the world, known and unknown, continue to come to CBGB's and perform.

It would be a shame to let NYU's greed department take that from us now and future generations who happen to care about the roots of NYC punk rock/rock-n-roll. Just click on the link and sign the petition to at least keep CBGB a historical landmark in NYC and save it from becoming another eye sore dormitory high rise.

For at least 6 months, I've had a bag in my room of DVDs I don't want anymore. I thought about selling them on eBay, but [livejournal.com profile] arafel convinced me it was easier and more worth it to just take 'em to a Gamestop and get credit. Sunday, I finally hauled my arse down to Menlo Park and traded everything in. I figured they'd give me $1 each, and I could pick up Katamari Damacy and be on my way. The guy rang up my stuff, then said, "Do you have a guess as to how much you're getting?" I shrugged. "80 bucks."

"...Nice!" Granted, eighty dollars is a FRACTION of what I originally spent on the DVDs (6 vols of WHR with box, 2 vols of Heat Guy J with box and SE extras disc, Suicide Kings, Kare Kano 3, Sakura Diaries, Animatrix, American Wedding, and other things which elude me now), but it's better than nothin'. Apparently, Witch Hunter Robin discs fetch 7 or 8 bucks each, so hey, if you've got them lying about and don't want them... I picked up DDR Extreme, then hightailed it to another store so I could get Katamari. I decided I needed more PS2 games than Dynasty Warriors 4, as I suck at it when not playing 2-player for fun.

The only two DVDs GameStop wouldn't take back were the Rayearth OVA and Night Shift Nurses. The manager was ringing me up and said, "We won't take these back, but sometimes people will just leave stuff behind because they just want it off their hands." I pictured taking back NSN and Rayearth, scanning the covers, posting to eBay, dealing with Paypal, getting to the post office (and that's just if I can sell it), and said, "Sure, I'll do that." There was another guy standing near the counter when I was being rung up, and he said, "Hell, I'll take the porn!" and gave me $5 out of his wallet. He ruled. Until he seemed to get entirely too excited about owning his very own watched-just-once anime porn.

DDR Extreme is alright; just another variation on a theme. It has a mission mode, and you can hook up an eyetoy with it, so you can play DDR mixed with ParaPara (in other words, dance around on the dance pad AND have to wave your arms around! Look like an idiot x 2!). But there isn't really a Workout mode; instead, you can turn on a workout setting, which will count calories as you play, but you have to play like it's a normal game, and select new songs every time. Stopping and starting like that really isn't good for a workout. But meh.

Still sick.
