PURCHASE! CONSUME!
Dec. 7th, 2004 11:08 pmSo DeepDiscountDVD is having a 50% off sale on Geneon DVDs (not including preorders, sadly...no Samurai Champloo...) and I feel the need to pimp some titles to my friendslist while the gettin's good.
El Hazard: The Magnificent World: 7 episode OVA and its 4 episode sequel. A really great fantasy series. A little bit Alice in Wonderland, a little bit Tenchi Muyo. High schoolers get sucked into an alternate dimension and try and figure out their way home. Beautiful animation, a decent dub (the voice actors...meh, but the script is hilarious), a sweet, short story with action and romance and all that other good stuff.
Paranoia Agent: Satoshi Kon's first TV series. He did Perfect Blue. Do I have to say anymore? Well, yeah, I guess. Thus far, it's intriguing and creepy and mysterious. Lil' Slugger is a young boy on roller blades who assaults citizens with a baseball bat. Every episode centers around a character who is tied to another character and everyone eventually meets the little hit-and-runner. Like Boogiepop Phantom, with clearer animation and minus the "WTF?" factor.
Haibane Renmei: A short, sweet little series about little angel people. A bit slow-moving, but it can be a nice change of pace. Great animation, lovely characters, a nice soundtrack. Admittedly, I have to be in a certain mood to watch this, but that mood is "Lazy Sunday."
Legend of Black Heaven: "But Casey," you say, "this hasn't been released yet, so it isn't eligible for the sale!" I say, "STFU, Fool." It wouldn't be an anime rec if I didn't include this title. Really the story of a man stuck in a mid-life crisis and clawing his way back to a full life, there's some crap about aliens and rock music saving the universe. Luckily, the latter is kept to a minimum. Good dub, awesome music, funny characters, touching ending.
...Huh, I only recommended short titles. C'mon, that's a change of pace from Naruto and FMA and InuYasha! :D As a last note, let me mention that those last three titles are 13 eps each. I'm sure Geneon has other good titles, but the only other things I would rec are Sailor Moon, Tenchi, Trigun, and Lupin, and well, if you haven't heard any recs of those...get off my friends page!*
>^..^<
*Just applicable to friends who are anime fans. Other friends who say "I can't even pronounce those titles!" get a free pass. :P
