In my previous post, I mentioned an article that I had a chance of looking for if I got bored at work. I remember being linked to it from the childfree community, so stopped in to see if I could find it quickly.

No such luck.

And man, some of those people = crazy fucks.

I don't want children. Why? Because I'm utterly self-involved and the idea of handing over the rest of my life to this little person just turns me off. But there are plenty of people I've met in my life who are very good parents - loving and kind, disciplinary when needed, yada yada yada. And I'm glad. SOMEONE has to perpetuate the species. I won't hold it against someone that they like children and happen to maybe have one or two around the house. Nor do I hold it against them if they give me that knowing smile and say, "Oh, you'll want one of your own someday." Because hey - maybe I will! One day I'll be 32 (God willing), and some guy'll be all, "Shit, bitch, you is fine," and I'll be all, "Shit, bitch, you is fine as well," and we'd make some fine offspring. I've changed my mind before. But as of right now, none of that is in my plan.

But some of these people are of the type that make one say, "Good! I'm GLAD you're not having children! And stop being on my side!"

I do agree that a lot of the people on childfree are nuts, and that they have extreme views that are just as closed-minded as many of the BNPs they rant about. However, I will say that any forum for an extreme point of view is going to attract a high percentage of wing nuts, and many of those wing nuts are going to be outspoken. There have been some posts that have turned me off - a recent post about a mother-to-be who had to get rid of a cat because it was peeing all over the house and wouldn't stop really bothered me, because the mother was obviously upset about it, and the pet people really jumped on her.

That having been said, not everyone on the community is a wing nut, (though I don't know whether you consider me one! ^_^) and in some ways, some of the childfree people are more concerned with children's welfare than the parents they write about. Most of the rants concern stupid parents who are screwing up their children, or not curtailing bad behavior, or allowing them to swear at a young age and such.

So yes, some of the wing nuts make me ashamed to be associated with the community, but there are good posts too. I never would have known about the health risks associated with Depo-Provera unless I read the board. Not that you should join or nothing, but I felt that I ought to stick up for the non-wing nut segment of the community. ^_^

Hee. You're not a wing nut, sweetie. And I will admit there were some good posts there. But there were a lot of people who gave me the impression that ANY time some sort of allowance was made for someone with a child, everyone went nutty - "They're going to take us over!"

For instance, the crazy c-section lady story has been posted twice - once with the stance of "dude, here's a person who should NOT have children," and the other about "THEY'RE TAKING AWAY ABORTION RIGHTS!" with opinions of, "Yeah, man, between scarring my belly or losing my child, I would totally be all, 'ew, don't cut me up.'" There's a Supreme Court law defending the rights of the unborn against those who would kill them outside a legal abortion situation. They read this as "Hey ladies! Your only worth is to be an incubator! And don't miscarry, or you'll end up in prison!"

That was longwinded of me. Maybe I'll friend it, but just check in on it from time to time to check out interesting posts. Like the anime community! :D

That is exactly why you need to help perpetuate the species one day. That, and you've got a great collection of Hello Kitty stuff any small child would kill and/or pimp for.
