Dear Trigun Fanfic Authors:

Meryl Stryfe is a great choice for a character study, because we don't really see a lot of background on her in canon, yet hints are placed that there's more than meets the eye. We are shown a bit more of this in the manga, which hints in Little Arcadia that she may have had a falling out with her parents. Also, we discover later that the first time she shot someone devastated her emotionally (though we don't know who her victim was or whether it was fatal).

Meryl has control issues that could stem from any number of things. Perhaps being a career woman in an essentially backwards world. Maybe her family was a bit screwed up. Or, by tracking someone who has been declared the first human disaster, she finds the lack of control so unnerving, she overcompensates. This also leads to frustration when she realizes she's attracted to this crazy man.

So, now that you've been given all these options, please Please PLEASE stop writing stupid stories where she's a bitch because she was raped by a stepfather/uncle/ex-husband/boyfriend/random man in an alleyway.

O_o Also, as an addendum, can we skip the cutting stories? That's just freaky.

To be fair, Pannya Soup is exempted because they made it pretty. Not the cutting, the overused storyline.

Yes, but she wasn't overly bitchy and un-Meryllike. This was mostly in reaction to Simple and Clean at FFN. Oy vey, what an OOC.
